

Born October 1, 1944 in Pekin to Lee E. and Velda Ella (Owens) Tosi, she married Bob Leon Cates on February 12, 1977 in Pekin. He died July 13, 2022 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Troy Gene Berardi; one granddaughter, Chanel Lynn Berardi; one brother, Terry O. Tosi, M.D. and one sister, Billie Lee Dickey.
Surviving are two daughters, Gina (Greg) Berardi-Bivens of Tremont and Colette (David) Huskisson of Pekin; one son, Anthony Tosi Cates of Pekin; her daughter-in-law, Julie Berardi of Pekin; five grandchildren, Nicholas Berardi of Pekin, Katana Van Roekel of Tremont, Keaton Cates serving with the Illinois Air National Guard, Airman Hunter Huskisson stationed in Germany and Jersey Cates of Pekin and two great-grandchildren, Dominick Berardi and Lilly Berardi.
After raising her children, Bonnie worked for Advanced Security in Peoria and later worked at The Tannery on Derby in Pekin for many years. Her steady dedication and dependable presence were evident, both at work and at home.
Bonnie loved listening to country oldies and found joy in playing cards, going for car rides, and taking long walks. She especially enjoyed attending her grandkids’ sporting events and activities along with feeding the birds and squirrels in her backyard. Bonnie loved dogs, especially her rescue, Wags, who held a special place in her heart.
Bonnie was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4835 Ladies Auxiliary in Fairfield.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
