Cathleen J Reed

Born August 21, 1918 in Decatur County, Tennessee to Thomas Allen and Maggie Mae (Rimmer) Jowers, she married John Rhea Reed, Sr. on July 4, 1946 in Corinth, Mississppi. He died December 6, 2002 in Pekin.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; one infant son, Keith Edgar Reed; one daughter, Cindy Jane Hintz; and two brothers.

Surviving are four sons, Michael J. (Michelle) Reed of South Pekin, John R. (Delma) Reed, Jr. and Timothy N. (Carol) Reed, both of Pekin, and Douglas C. (Margo) Reed of Memphis Tennessee; one daughter, Nancy L. (Terry) Karnes of Memphis, Tennessee; twelve grandchildren, Theresa (Randy) Justus, Tonya (John) Bunch, John (Sarah) Reed, III, Joshua (Sabrina) Reed, Mary Schneider, Daniel (Angie) Reed, Amy Owens, Randy (Tammie) Hintz, Anna Reed, Molly Reed, Lydia Reed, and Thea Reed; fifteen great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Emily and Rebekah Justus, Amanda, Sophia and Jebediah Bunch, Farrah, Lydia and Gracie Reed, Sydney and Kylie Reed, Malorie and Andrew Schneider, and Hayli and John Hintz; and two sisters, Inez Lane of Bartlett, Tennessee and Nell Jarrett of Milan, Tennessee.

During World War II, Cathleen worked at the Wolf Creek Munitions Plant. She was a homemaker in her later years. After her husband suffered a massive stroke, she chose to take care of him at home for almost twelve years.

Cathleen was a fan of Saint Louis Cardinals baseball, and enjoyed painting and spending time with her family members.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 31, 2008at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.Pastor Randy D. Justus andPastor John Bunch will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
