Connie Sutherland

Born August 27, 1921 in Marion to Ralph Edward and Lucille (Fisher) Wood, she married Robert J. Sutherland on June 29, 1947 in Marion.  He died June 7, 2003 in Pekin.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Barry C. Sutherland; and one brother, Ben E. Wood.

Surviving are one son, John Sutherland, II of Pekin; two grandchildren, John Sutherland, III and Jeniffer Adams; and four great-grandchildren.

She was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.

She was a 1944 graduate of DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Saint Louis, Missouri.

A registered nurse, Connie had worked at the V/A Hospital in Marion for 7 years, for Drs. Wherry, Werner, and Helden & Colson in Pekin for 13 years, and last at Keystone Steel and Wire Company in Bartonville for 19 years, retiring in 1996.

She was a former member of both First United Methodist Church in Pekin and Marion.

Private graveside services will be held at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin with Pastor Shane Hawkins officiating.  Military rites will be accorded by the United States Navy and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
