

Born August 1, 1954 in Peoria to Albert and Ethel (Stewart) Salter, he married Victoria Gonzales. She died in April, 1973 in Peoria. He later married Madeline Gibson on April 16, 1976 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, David “Dave” (Susan) Salter II, Nathaniel Salter, Tyler Salter; one daughter, Leah (Shane) Cline, all of Pekin; four grandchildren, Victoria, Kaylee, Kyle, Jacob; one great-grandchild, Riley; three brothers, Ron (Marilyn) Hills of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Mike Salter of Creve Coeur, Henry Salter of Chillicothe and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son, Kyle Steven and one brother, Raymond Hills.
He had served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era.
Dave had worked for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 60 out of Morton for over 20 years, retiring in 2015.
He had been a member of the Pekin Eagles Aerie 1869.
Dave enjoyed hot rods and riding motorcycles, especially his 1959 Harley Davidson Servi-Car. He had also been involved in the St. Jude family with the St. Jude Rides and Chopped for a Cause. He also loved being with his family, good food and buffets, being outdoors and watching WWE wrestling. He was known on the CB radio by his handle Crazy 8.
A celebration of life is planned for a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
