

Born June 28, 1940 in Mattoon to Robert Albert and Laura F. (Zike) Flaherty, he married Kathy Lynn Reed on September 4, 1976 in Bartonville. She survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Charissa Davis of Morton, Laura (Marvin) Irby of Lacon, Rhonda Flaherty of Kingston Mines, Roberta Flaherty of Florida, and Penni Ann Edwards of Mattoon; one son, Mark Flaherty of Mattoon; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Cheyenne Hope Burwell; and one brother, Robert Flaherty.
He served in the United States Army.
David worked for the Canadian National Illinois Central Railroad in Decatur for 42 ½ years, retiring in 2002 as a conductor.
He was a member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916, where he had served as Governor 3 times. He also served as Past Governor 4 times. He had received the Fellowship Degree and the Pilgrim Degree from the Loyal Order of Moose. He was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 in Pekin.
David enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing cards, especially Euchre. He was a huge St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball fan.
A celebration of life gathering will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the Pekin Moose Family Center. Burial of cremated remains will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin at a later date.
