

PEKIN ~ Dennie Joe Vess, 59, of 613 Dawn Avenue, Interlachen, Florida, passed away at 2:24 p.m. Friday, March 23, 2007 at Memorial Hospital Jacksonville, Jacksonville, Florida. He was formerly of Pekin and South Pekin.
Born March 6, 1948 in Knoxville, Tennessee to Jack Kenneth and Beulah Mae (Cline) Vess, he married Julie Ann Cohenour on June 9, 1968 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother, Beulah Vess of Interlachen, Florida; two daughters, Trisha D. (David) Brienen of Green Valley and Brittany N. (Nicholas) Gibson of South Pekin; two grandchildren, Jared A. Brienen and Hannah R. Brienen, both of Green Valley; two brothers, Kenneth (Carol) Vess of Parowan, Utah and Bobby (Susie) Vess of Bakersfield, California; two sisters, Ida Furst and Evelyn Trumpy, both of Interlachen, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Dennie worked for CILCO for 30 years, retiring in 1999 as a heavy equipment operator on the coal crew at the E.D. Edwards station. Following retirement, he worked as a groundskeeper for Lakeside Cemetery Association in Pekin.
He enjoyed golfing, fishing, working outdoors, riding his golf-cart "Mule", and tinkering in his workshop.
His graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Friday,March 30, 2007at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. The Rev. Richard Brienen will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
