Donald A. Wahls

Born March 24, 1933 in Evanston to Albert C. and Lydia (Kutz) Wahls, he married Helen Mary Beckmann on June 24, 1961 in Park Ridge. She died January 9, 2016 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Robert (and sister-in-law, Doris) Wahls and sister-in-law, Margaret Wahls.

Surviving are one brother, Harvey Wahls of Raleigh, North Carolina; two nieces, Rhonda (Don) Jones of Johnsburg and Dr. Nancy Wahls of Hanover, Maryland; and three nephews, Michael (Denise) Wahls of Spring Grove, Robert (Barbara) Wahls of Pinckney, Michigan, and Dr. Richard (Debbie) Wahls of Williamsburg, Virginia. He leaves dear friends in the Bettler Family of Pekin.

Don was a 1956 graduate of the University of Wisconsin with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. He worked as a Registered Pharmacist for Thrifty Drug Stores and later SupeRx in Pekin, retiring in 1995. He previously had owned and operated Ehrlicher Drugs in Pekin.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Don was a former member of Sunset Hills Golf Club in Pekin and the Central Illinois Pharmacy Association. He was a charter member of the Pekin Chapter of Ambucs.

Don and Helen were residents of Pekin for over 60 years and wintered in Anna Marie Island, Florida for more than 25 years. They were blessed to have close, long-lasting friendships across the States. Don enjoyed golfing, traveling, playing bridge and following sports (especially the Chicago Bears).

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pekin.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Pat Monroe will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
