

Born October 22, 1921 in rural Delavan to Barton and Virgie (Zumwalt) Irwin, she married Everett N. “Squirt” Buchanan on April 20, 1943 in Kahoka, Missouri. He died April 28, 1995 in Pekin. She was also preceded in death by her parents; three great-grandsons; four brothers; four sisters; and her companion of 12 years, Clarence Frohling.
Surviving are one son, Corky (Zoe) Buchanan of Washburn; one daughter, Karen (Brad) McCain of Pekin; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Howard of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews.
Doris was a 1940 graduate of Delavan High School.
She was a life member of the Pekin Eagles Aerie #1869 Ladies Auxiliary.
A homemaker, Doris loved to cook, bake, garden, and fish. She cherished being with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She sold Sarah Coventry Jewelry for several years.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 3, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Schramm Educational Center, 300 Cedar Street, Pekin, IL 61554 in memory of Doris’ great-grandson, Seth McCain.
