

Born October 4, 1934 in Scott County to Ira Verlin and Jessie Marie (Bunch) Sours, she married David M. Farrar on October 8, 1952 in Marquette Heights. He died on March 15, 2018 in Peoria. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Charles Sours, Gene Sours, Billie Dean Sours and Ira Sours and four sisters, Mildred Kerr, Leona Deros, Mary Arnett and Thelma Chaplin.
Surviving are one son, Gary Lee (Diana) Farrar of East Peoria; two daughters, Nancy Marie (Rick) Mitzelfelt of Georgetown, Texas and Patricia Ann (Dennis) Whitley of Manito; nine grandchildren, Jeremy (Gerri) Farrar, Joshua (Sara) Farrar, Danyell (Matt) Rosenbaum, Gabrielle (Adam) Graves, Megan (Joe) Whitley, Alexandria (Wade) Whitley, Bradley (Abby) Mitzelfelt, Erin Mitzelfelt and Lane (Kathryn) Mitzelfelt; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Clarence Sours of Manito and two sisters, Bessie Carlton of Isabella, California and Betty (Joseph) Smith of South Pekin.
A former member of the Free Methodist Church in East Peoria, Dorothy attended Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. Dorothy was a custodian for the East Peoria Free Methodist Church for 30 years.
Dorothy’s children and grandchildren were the center of her life.
Dorothy was a volunteer at Pekin Township for 30 years and for 50 years she has been participating in TOPS.
Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2024 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
