

Born July 19, 1945 in Peoria to Hal and Beverly (Nasses) Hammond, he married Cheri Lee Hill on July 4, 1965 in Peoria. She died on January 12, 2020. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dru Hammond; one brother, Rick Hammond and one sister, Kathy Giuliani.
Surviving are his children, Dave Hammond and Dan (Melissa) Hammond, both of Marquette Heights, and Dennis (Valerie) Hammond of Wichita, Kansas; six grandchildren, Brittany, Emily, Douglas, Chase, Dylan and Dalton; four great grandchildren, Kyler, Kade, Paisley and Nylah; and one brother, Gary (Brenda) Hammond of Arkansas.
Dwight had worked at Caterpillar Inc. for 32 years as a material control clerk. After his retirement he drove buses for Tazewell-Woodford County Headstart program in Pekin.
He was an avid fan of sports including the St. Louis Cardinals and participating in softball tournaments. Dwight enjoyed exercising by running or biking. Most of all, he loved watching his grandkids’ sporting activities.
A private graveside service will be held at Prairie Haven Cemetery in Pekin. Rev. Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
