

PEKIN ~ Edith Goldie Peak, 91, of 444 Parkway Dr., Pekin, passed away at 1:16 p.m., Monday, April 11, 2011 at her sons home in Pekin.Edith was born November 17, 1919 in Mt. Eden, KY to Delbert and Carrie (Woods) Murphy.Surviving are three sons, Luther D. (Jean) Peak of Louisville, KY, Doyle E. (Mary) Peak and Omer E. (Sandy) Peak, both of Pekin; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorine (Truman) Nethery of Lawrenceburg, KY,; two brothers, Robert E. Murphy of Mt. Eden, KY and John D. (Sue) Murphy of Lawrenceburg, KY.Edith was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.In her childhood, Edith worked the tobacco fields of her family farm. Later in life, she was a nurse’s aide at several nursing homes in Kentucky and the Pekin-Peoria area. Her first job was at the Tazewell County Nursing Home and Children’s Home located just west of Tremont on Rte. 9. In September, 1959, she was awarded the certificate in “Care of the Sick and Injured” and was awarded a special nurse’s aide pin by the American Red Cross.Edith enjoyed caring for the less fortunate, reading the Bible, and canning her favorite vegetables at harvest time.Sincere and loving thanks are given to Linda and Tiffany of OSF Hospice for their loving care and support of our mother during this difficult time.Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. The Rev. Mike Roberts will officiate.
