

Born November 9, 1939 in Paducah, Kentucky to Henry C. and Mary (Tracy) Kolb, she married Donald Eugene Hermes on February 23, 1958 in Corinth, Mississippi. He survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mary (Rick) Conrady of Hartsburg, Rebecca (Wayne) King of East Peoria, and Jennifer (Darren) Mitzelfelt of El Paso; one son, Donald (Mary Anne) Hermes, Jr. of Manito; and four grandchildren, Seth King of East Peoria, Mallary Hermes of Coralville, Iowa, Melissa Hermes of Manito, and Dirk Conrady of Hartsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter, Vanessa Sue Hermes; four brothers; and one sister.
A homemaker, Ellen enjoyed gardening, embroidering, camping, fishing, golfing, and swimming. She was an avid bowler and bowled in leagues throughout the area for many years. She cherished her family, especially her grandchildren.
Ellen was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she was a member of the J.O.Y. Circle and was a former Sunday school teacher. She was a former member of Daughters of the American Revolution and the Women’s International Bowling Congress.
Her memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Monday, February 9, 2015 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Dr. Brian Byrne will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial of cremated remains will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin at a later date.
