

CREVE COEUR ~ Ethel Estella Nyman, 88, of 6901 North Galena Road, Peoria, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was formerly of Creve Coeur, Spring Bay, and Metamora.
Born September 25, 1918 in LaFayette to Floyd C. and Julia (Kimball) Shirley, she married Roy Melvin Nyman on January 14, 1939 at the Little Brown Church in the Wildwood in Nashua, Iowa. He died July 2, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two daughters (Beverly Swearingen and Shirley Davis), one son (John Nyman), and one sister (Mildred Gill).
Surviving are two sons, Floyd M. (Dianne) Nyman of Creve Coeur and Danny H. (Margie S.) Nyman of Union, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.In 1941, Ethel and her husband, Roy, founded and operated Nyman's Royal Blue Grocery Store in Creve Coeur (later was known as Nyman's Cardinal Grocery Store) until 1968 when they sold the business to their son and daughter-in-law, Floyd and Dianne. She then began her 18 year career with Beeline Fashions where she was a clothing representative at home parties, later becoming a regional manager for a large portion of the State of Illinois. She was a national awards winner with Beeline Fashions.
She was a member of Spring Bay United Methodist Church for many years and a 50-year member of the Cloverleaf Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in East Peoria.
Throughout her life Ethel was a devoted Christian and was active in many church activities. While residing at Snyder Village in Metamora, she was instrumental in starting a Bible study for her friends.
Ethel's family was a very important part of her life.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Ray Harrison will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.
