

Born August 29, 1931 in Elgin to Harold and Ruth Lightner Walz, he married Patricia Marsh in 1949. She passed away in 1971. He later married Julie Bergdahl Thomas of Pekin on February 24, 1997 in Punta Gorda, Florida. She survives.
Surviving are three sons, Thomas (Joyce) Walz of Peoria, Dr Jack (Shannon) Walz of Bloomington and Fred C. Walz of Madison, Wisconsin; one step-son, Troy K. (Joan) Thomas of Woodstock; one step-daughter, Beth N. (Dr. Brad) Krohn of Portland, Oregon; ten grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one brother, Gene (Gail) Walz of Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, David H. Walz on August 24, 2003; one sister and one brother.
Mr. Walz was retired from Walz Scale and Equipment in East Peoria, where he was the founder and longtime president of the company.
He was a member and avid supporter of Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and The Humanist Society.
He enjoyed fishing, playing golf, sailing, reading and running. Fred ran the Boston Marathon in 1979.
Private family services will be held with burial in Lakewood Memorial Park in Elgin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society, 2675 Allentown Road, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
