Frederick "Fred" Hyatt

MANITO ~ Frederick Russell Hyatt, 85, of rural Manito, passed away peacefully at 1:13 a.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria surrounded by love and comfort, with his granddaughters, Johanna and Hope, and their significant others at his side.

Born on July 15, 1940 in Pekin to Russell Frederick and Viola Florence (Wade) Hyatt, he married Mary L. (Null) Miller on December 25, 1993 in Pekin. She died May 4, 2015 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Kenneth Hyatt; one brother, Gary Hyatt and one sister, Joyce Marlene Knackmus.

Surviving are one son, Brandy Russell Hyatt; one stepson, Terry (Teresa) Miller, Jr. of Pekin; three step-daughters, Tammy Cohenour of California, Shelly Miller of Pekin and Christina (Bodie) Kyle of Missouri; eight grandchildren, Johanna (Cody) Robinson, Hope (Asa) Craig, Jill (Jacob) Flynn, Terry (Madison) Miller, III, Jack (Tammy) Cohenour, III, Tim Cohenour, Joseph Hyatt and Braden Hyatt and twelve great-grandchildren, Hudson, Kamberly, Georgia, Lakelyn, Magnolia, Mya, Matilda, Wyatt, Olivia, Ryne, Ashlee and Maddox.

Fred served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958 to 1961. Following his military service, he worked as a coal miner for the Brushy Creek Coal Company in southern Illinois for 20 years, retiring in 1997. Additionally, he was skilled in carpentry, a trade he practiced in earlier years.

He had a passion for yardwork and gardening. Fred was a dedicated member and past commandant of the Tobin-Nanninga Marine Corps League #085 in Pekin, where he was known for helping to cook many fish and chicken dinners.

Fred will be remembered for his steadfast service, his hard work, and his commitment to his community.

Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Inurnment in Glendale Memorial Gardens will be conducted at a later date.
