

Born October 22, 1917 in Snicarte to Clifford Earl and Nettie May (Smith) Spencer, he married Mabel Edna Stock on April 10, 1940 in Beardstown. She died July 1, 1983 in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, and three brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy Atkinson and Nancy (Larry) Duley, both of Pekin, and Karen (Hans) Sidell of Claremont, California; eight grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Harold (Margaret "Peg") Spencer of Astoria. He also leaves a special friend, Laura Harding of Pekin.
He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II.
George worked at Corn Products Company in Pekin from 1941 to 1979. He worked in maintenance in the tin shop.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and walking. He was a former member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March2, 2009at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The Rev. Dr. Timothy Najpaver will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
