

PEKIN ~ Georgia Claraellen Watson, 87, of Autumn Accolade in rural Green Valley, passed away at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center Emergency Room in Peoria. She had been a longtime resident of Pekin.
Born February 22, 1928 in Morton to George and Ella Jane (Shields) Fischer, she married Donald L. Watson on May 16, 1948 in Pekin. He died September 1, 1991. She also was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Margaret Adami, Anna Stovall, Norma Meads and Velma Fischer; one brother, George Fischer, Jr.; one nephew; and one great-great-nephew.
Surviving are two sisters, Gladys Taylor of Pekin and Barbara Crowley of Diamond Bar, CA; brother-in-law, Donald “Dutch” Stovall of Manito; sister-in-law, Rosemary Watson of Pekin; and many nieces and nephews, including Theresa Payne, Marcia DeWitt, and Wendy Proehl who helped care for her.
Georgia worked in accounting for Borden’s Dairy for 33 years and then Pekin Insurance for 12 years before retiring.
She was an active and devoted member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where she was a former choir member. She also was a member of the Maranatha Sunday school class and the Roadrunners group at the church.
Along with enjoying activities and fellowship with her church family, Georgia enjoyed dining out, traveling and shopping.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015 at First Baptist Church in Pekin. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Pekin or to the Maranatha Sunday school class at First Baptist Church.
