A Life Worth Living:
Gerald “Butch” Henricks passed away February 2, 2023 in the comfort of his home located in Pekin, IL surrounded by his loving wife, Darla Henricks, and members of his family. "Butch" - as he was known to his family and friends, was born on September 10, 1941 to Irving Henricks and Dorothy Johnson and raised in Pekin.
Butch served as an ironworker for 50 years out of Local 112; he helped build the Combined Insurance building in Chicago Illinois, which his grandchildren always found fascinating. Butch was known for his hard work ethic and for being a provider and loving father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved to fish, hunt, play cards, and tinker with things with his hands. He spent many trips camping and road-tripping across the United States to see all of the beautiful nature. He had been to almost every state in the country but loved to vacation in the warm weather of Florida. Up until his last few days, he was still discussing travel plans down to avoid the cold Illinois winter this year.
Butch was a simple, salt-of-the-earth kind of man that never wanted or needed much. Filled with a desire to give, Butch always found ways to give of his time, resources, and talents to anyone in need. He was gregarious and known to have never met a stranger. He had a personality that could put a smile on anyone’s face, and was known to spark laughter in a room with his ornery antics like his famous “Grandpa Butchy Kisses.” Butch was staunch in his faith and a firm follower of Jesus Christ. Most of all, he loved his family more than anything in this world. Butch was a family man and known to do anything for those that he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Darla Henricks, his brother Terry Henricks, and his children, LeAnn and (Danny) Mansfield, Marjorie and (Rick) Perdew, Rhonda Bishop, Ronald, and (Dawn) Hendricks, Stuart and (Tamara) Breeden, Robert, and (Michelle) Henricks, and Michael and (Susan) Henricks. Butch was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. He was known as “Papa Butch” to 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Butch’s memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Days of Grace Fellowship, 273 East Queenwood Road, Morton, IL. The family would like to invite you to attend to celebrate Butch’s life. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his name to the Boys and Girls Club of Pekin or Days of Grace Fellowship.
