He was born on March 18,1937 in Pekin, the son of Ora and Clarissa (Bush) Runyon. He married Carol Hoerr on July 29,1966 in Peoria. She died on February 15, 1990. His parents also preceded him in death.
Surviving are his children, Michelle (Kendall) Larsen of Bennington, Nebraska, Steven Runyon of Pekin, and Ashley (Nathan Wombacher) Runyon of Pekin; five grandchildren, Kendra, Kelsey, Jacob, Jared and Conner and one great-granddaughter, Oaklee.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Gilbert worked for Caterpillar, Inc. in East Peoria for over 30 years, retiring in 1992.
He enjoyed rooting for the Cardinals, Bulls, and Bears. Gilbert loved camping, watching western movies, and could always be found working in his garage.
A private family service will be held at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
