

He was born May 27, 1944 in Braidwood to Francis Mark and Barbara (Person) Brackett.
Surviving are his mother, Barbara Brackett of Evansville, Indiana; three sons, Steve Brackett and Jacob Mark Brackett, both of South Pekin, and Roger Brackett of Pekin; one daughter, Anne Brackett of South Pekin; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Dorothy) Brackett of Coal City and James Brackett of Pekin; and three sisters, Sharon (Phillip) Wynn of Evansville, Indiana, Mary Baize of Pekin, and Hazel Jaros of South Wilmington.
He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers (Francis "Buddy" Brackett and Ray Brackett), and one sister (Alice Guess).
He worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for 30 years as a tool designer and in technical drafting, retiring in 1994.
Jake enjoyed writing stories and poems.
His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Pastor Mark Dexter will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
