He was born February 9, 1937 in Princeton, Indiana to Dalton and Marjorie Reeser Painter.
Surviving is 1 son, John W. Painter of Columbia, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Painter last worked for the Pioneer Railway in Peoria, retiring as a clerk in 2000. Previously, he had worked for the Iron Mountain Railroad in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
He served in the U.S. Army in Korea following the Korean war.
He was a former of the Elks Lodge in Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Private graveside services will be in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur chapel.
