

She was born February 5, 1961 in Peoria to Richard D. and Elizabeth M. (Engel) Gomes, Sr. They preceded her in death.
Surviving are four sisters, Susan (Richard) Caudill of Sparks, NV, Dawn (Joe) Morsch of Pekin, Jill (Bob) Good of Springfield and Janine (Mark) Tolson of Peoria; one brother, Richard (Brenda) Gomes of Cross Roads, TX; three nephews, Zachary, Aaron and David; three nieces, Amy, Michelle and Brooke; three great-nieces, Lily, Eliza and Sylvie and one great-nephew, Ashton.
Janice was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Peoria where she had been active on the church council; Altar Guild; serving as a youth group leader and Sunday school teacher.
She had graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor's Degree in early child development.
Janice had owned and operated Coneys in Peoria since 2011. Prior to that, she had operated Emo’s Dairy Mart where she had begun working at the age of 15.
She loved being an aunt and spending time with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed table games with her family, playing cards, computer games, cross stitching and fishing.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 7, 2015 at First English Lutheran Church in Peoria. The Rev. Dr. James R. Lillie will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
