

Born May 21, 1952 in Peoria, she was a daughter of Chris Robert and Lillian Ann (Bell) Straesser. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gary Thomas Straesser.
Surviving are two nieces, Gaylynn Allen of Groveland and Kristin (John) Rembold of East Peoria; one nephew, Bennett Straesser of Crossville, Tennessee; one great niece, Raechel Pfahl of East Peoria; two great nephews, Reid (Kat) Rembold of East Peoria and Ian (Will) Allen-Kruzan of Toulon and one great-great-nephew, Thomas Oliver Rembold.
Janis attended Augustana College and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University. She last worked for Peoria School District 150 in administration and had previously worked for Tom Lighter, Caterpillar, and Bergner's in Peoria.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Janis was very musical and shared her talents as an opera singer. She sang with the Peoria Civic Opera and was proud to have performed in New York City. Her love for music was matched by her enthusiasm for politics, in which she was actively involved.
Janis found joy in cooking and spending time with her beloved cats. Her diverse interests and dedication to her many pursuits will be fondly remembered by those who knew her.
She was of the Christian faith.
Her private graveside service will be held in Dickison Cemetery in Dunlap. Pastor Carole Hoke will officiate. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
