

Born March 24, 1939 in Delavan to Glenn and Mary (Carpenter) Diegel, he married Cheryl “Sherry” Thome on August 13, 1966 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Alice (Bill) Stark of Salem, MO and Sharon Broomfield of Pekin and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenneth and William Leonard Diegel and one sister, Evelyn Golden.
John served in the United States Air Force.
He worked over 40 years out of the Carpenters Local Union No. 183 in East Peoria, retiring in 1999.
John was a member of the Pekin Men’s Bowling Association and the William Schaefer American Legion Post #44 in Pekin. He was also a member of the Pekin Family Moose Center #916 where he had served as Governor from 1989 to 1990.
He enjoyed bowling, fishing, watching the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and photography.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Chaplain Dwight Winnett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
