He was born January 14, 1946 in Buffalo, New York to John and Hazel (Frye) Whelan. His mother survives of Jacksonville, Florida.
He is also survived by his life partner, Eileen Fodor of Peoria; one step-son, Michael Fodor of Jacksonville, Florida; one brother, Charles Whelan of New Jersey; and one sister, Elissa Wilkinson of Jacksonville, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.
John was a cowboy for many years. He also had played guitar professionally, playing with the Bruce Springsteen Band for 7 months.
Cremation rites will be accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. There will be no visitation or services.
Memorial contributions may be given to a charity of the donor's choice.
