

He was born August 29, 1943 in Rotzo, Italy to Silvio and Fiorinda (Pellizzaro) Costa. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, John Costa; and three sisters, Lucille Pope, Clelia Costa, and Sylvia Costa.
Joe immigrated to the United States aboard the Neptunia, a small passenger ship. The Neptunia left Naples, Italy on October 16, 1950 and arrived at the Port of New York on October 30, 1950.
Surviving are one sister, Elizabeth Hvizdos of Romeoville; brother-in-law, Dale Pope of Chillicothe; four nephews, David (Mary) Pope of Pekin, Daniel (Helen) Pope and Steven (Rose) Pope, both of Chillicothe, and Steven (Patty) Hvizdos of Bolingbrook; one niece, Sylvia Stallion of Bolingbrook; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Joe worked at Caterpillar, Inc. for 31 years, retiring in 1996 as an engine assembler in East Peoria.
He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Archbishop Schlarman Council #3507, both in Pekin. He was a former member of the Pekin Moose Family Center #916 and the Pekin Jaycee’s. Joe was a St. Louis Cardinal’s fan.
His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin with Father Michael Andrejek as the celebrant. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Cemetery in Nokomis.
