

Born October 13, 1928 in Benton to Oscar Dean and Mary B. (Dorris) West, he married Betty J. Fisher on September 20, 1952 in Benton. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Donald E. (Joelyn) West of Colleyville, Texas, Rev. James E. (Denise) West of Pekin, and Michael D. (Barbara) West of Antioch, Tennessee; one daughter, Kristi J. West of Antioch, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Cara (Ryan) Zeblin of Wheatfield, Indiana, Jayme West and David West, both of Pekin, Karen West,Kaitlyn West, and Donald West, allof Colleyville, Texas, and Nicholas Westof Antioch, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren, Kori Dewitt of Wheatfield, Indiana and Mychael West of Pekin; one brother, Rev. John (Margaret) West of Benton; and two sisters, Mary L. (Jack) Mandrell of Pekin and Ruth Ann Owens of Benton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alice Fern Brantley.
A United States Air Force veteran of the Korean War, he attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Joe began working for the City of Pekin in 1968 in the Sanitation Department and later transferred to the Street Department, retiring in 1989. Previously, he worked for BF Goodrich and Leo's TV, both in Pekin and Caterpillar, Inc.
He was a 52-year member of Liberty Baptist Church in Pekin, where he was a greeter for over 30 years and a deacon.
A devoted family man, Joe enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2007at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. John West, his brother, and Rev. Dr. Tim Najpaver will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Air Force and Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
