

Born March 10, 1926 in Chicago to James and Susan Bennett Lyon, she married Melvin “Shorty” Thompson on August 21, 1949 in Pekin.
Surviving are her husband; 2 daughters, Martha “Marty” (Ken) Oltman of Mendota and Anne (Robin) Thompson of Brinklow, Maryland; 1 grandson, Corey Oltman of Bloomington; 4 great-grandchildren, Connor, Caley, Carson, and Colby Oltman; 1 niece, Dani Jo (Valdi) Vavere of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and 1 nephew, Mike (Joan) McCormick of Alma, Wisconsin.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister.
She was a member of Pekin First Church of the Nazarene.
Josephine was also a member of the Pekin Bottle Collectors, Friends of the Pekin Library, the Pekin Hospital Auxiliary, volunteering for 42 years. She also volunteered for many years at the Tazewell Animal Protective Society. She was a member of the Silver Cross Circle and past president of the King’s Daughters.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at Pekin First Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. W. Lloyd Brock will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday and also from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. Friday, both at the church. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
