

PEKIN ~ Karen Lynne Weghorst Hettel, 50, of St. Peters, Missouri, passed away at 7:02 p.m. Thursday, January 1, 2015 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church.
Born February 10, 1964 in Pekin to Paul Ronald and M. Donna (Reed) Weghorst, she married Martin T. “Marty” Hettel on May 11, 1991 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are her mother of Pekin; two daughters, Sara Hettel and Kimberly Hettel, both of St. Peters; one brother, Mark (Teresa) Weghorst of Pekin; one sister, Kathi (Jim) McGonigal of Pekin and her aunt, Vivian Weghorst of Pekin. She also leaves her father-in-law, Bernard Hettel of Utica and her brothers-in-law, Mike (Jean) Hettel of Peoria and Mark Hettel of Ottawa.
Karen was preceded in death by her father and her mother-in-law, Delores Hettel.
Karen was a member of Sts. Joachim and Ann Catholic Church in St. Charles, Missouri and was President of the Band Parent Association at Fort Zumwalt East High School in St. Peters.
She was deeply loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
Her funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 8, 2014 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
