Katherine L. Vlasis

Born February 26, 1930 in Kewanee to Frank and Sophie (Van Waes) Karpowicz, she married James Thomas Vlasis on May 25, 1949 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Peoria. He died July 3, 2014 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Janice Lucas on September 10, 2013; one brother, Frank Karpowicz and one sister, Betty James.

Surviving are three sons, James (Linda) Vlasis of Creve Coeur, Joseph Vlasis of East Peoria and David Vlasis of Pekin; one daughter, Mary Allen of East Peoria; nine grandchildren, Jimmy Vlasis, Stephanie (Dave) Edgcomb, Jessica Vlasis, Kristian Vlasis, Craig Allen, Jennifer Allen, Shelley Alberti, Brian (Gretchen) Lucas and Chad Lucas; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Daniel (Shirley) Karpowicz of Ft. Myers, Florida and two sisters, Marie Doak of Peoria and Frances Kidd of Burbank, California.

A homemaker, Katherine enjoyed embroidery, knitting and baking. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Her graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
