Born on March 13, 1979, Kate came into the Lucera family at just three days old — a gift and a light from the very beginning. From the moment she arrived, she brought joy, laughter, and a fiercely loving spirit that never faded.
She is survived by her two beloved sons, Ian Lucera and Jaycik Lucera; her daughter-in-law, Jada Lucera of Peoria; her sister, Beth Lucera of Chicago; her aunt, Joella Lucera of Pekin; and her cherished grandchildren, whom she adored with all her heart. She was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Joyce Lucera. Together, Jim and Joyce gave Kate a home full of unconditional love, support, and belonging.
Kate attended Limestone Community High School where she formed lasting friendships and began to cultivate the independence and strong will that shaped her life.
She was the kind of person who created comfort and beauty wherever she went — whether in her kitchen, her garden, or among her beloved animals. She loved to cook and took great joy in sharing cherished family recipes, keeping traditions alive through every dish she prepared. Her home was a place where others were always welcome — and always well fed.
Her passion for gardening, her deep connection with her pets, and her natural sense of order and organization reflected the care and intention she brought to all aspects of life. She shared her dad’s love for Cardinals baseball, and passed on her steady heart and humor to her sons.
Above all, Kate will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her ability to find joy in life’s simple pleasures, and the love she gave so freely to others. She absolutely adored being a grandma, and her grandbabies brought her endless pride and happiness. She was steady, kind, and endlessly thoughtful — the kind of person who made the world softer just by being in it.
A celebration of Kate’s life will be held at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home in Pekin on Saturday August 9, 2025. Visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin immediately following.
