

Born July 4, 1925 in Macon to Dwight T. and Irene Crickman Hughes, he married Virginia Marie Campbell on January 14, 1967 in Peoria. She died on March 14, 2004 in East Peoria.
Surviving are two sons, David L. (Linda) Hughes of Pekin and Kenneth A. Hughes, Jr. of Lake Bloomington; one step-daughter, Pamela Ann Vincent of Killeen, Texas; one step-son, William C. Stoner of Peru; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ray (Marlene) Hughes of Springfield; and five sisters, Patricia Hughes of Auburn, Juanita (Wendell) Jones of Macon, Anna Lou (Don) Cook of Minnesota, Willa (Dean) Grant of Pennsylvania, and Barbara Reynolds of Decatur.
He was also preceded in death by one great-granddaughter and one brother.
Mr. Hughes worked for Caterpillar, Inc. for over 30 years, retiring in 1982 as an inspector in East Peoria.
He served with the United States Army during World War II.
He was a member of American Legion Post #1234 in Creve Coeur and had also served on the Creve Coeur Village Zoning Board.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and bowler.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, November 4, 2005at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Alan L.Newhall will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sparland Cemetery in Sparland.
