

Born October 19, 1920 in McHenry, Kentucky to Von L. and Effie (Stevens) Heflin, he married Nora Pearl Landrith on October 5, 1955 in Springfield. She died June 14, 1987 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are one grandson, Thomas R. (Carla) Edwards, Jr. of Pekin; four great-grandchildren, Mariah, Haleigh, Zander and Arabella Edwards; and several nieces and nephews, including Shirley (Ozzie) Osborn, who was his caregiver.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Pekin.
Leon had served in the United States Air Force during World War II.
He was a member of the Laborer’s Local #231 in Pekin for 27 years. He worked for J.D. Privett for 18 years and later worked for Commonwealth Edison Powerton Station for five years.
A storyteller, Leon could lift anyone’s spirits with one of his stories. He loved to fish, hunt and garden. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. Steven M. Rowell, Sr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin, where military rites will be provided by the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team and the Military Funeral Honors Team.
