Margarete Hall

Born January 14, 1935 in Berlin, Germany, she was the daughter of William Schmidt and Emilie Glatzel. She married John Benjamin “Jack” Hall on June 27, 1958 in Berlin, Germany. He died on December 22, 2022 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents and one son-in-law, L. Ray Gordon.

Surviving are two children, Judy Gordon of Pekin and Dr. Charles Christopher “Chuck” (Mirko Crljen-Hall) Hall of Munich, Germany; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Daryl) Selock of Elk Grove Village and Matt (Carrie) King of Farmington; four great-grandchildren, Owen Selock, Nolan Selock, Emery King and Elliott King and one sister-in-law, Barb (Duane) Hill of Pekin.

She had a love for gardening and was a longtime members of the Greater Peoria Rose Society. She also was a gifted cake decorator and enjoyed making dolls, knitting and sewing. Her family will treasure many handmade scarves, sweaters, ties and stocking caps that she made. Margarete also enjoyed collecting antiques.

Margarete was proud to have become an American citizen and was a longtime member of the German American Society (DANK). She and her husband enjoyed many trips back to her native Germany.

She was a member of the Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem and the Order of the Amaranth and was an ardent supporter of the Bethel 55 Chapter of Job’s Daughters.

Margarete was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

Her funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. Pastor Eric N. Swanson and Pastor Judy Steger Kennedy will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service and inurnment will take place in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
