

PEKIN ~ Mark Thomas Conaghan, 72, a lifelong resident of Pekin, passed away at 8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024 at Sunset Manor in Canton. The Conaghan family settled in Pekin in 1868, Tazewell County Early Settler Certificate number 186.
Mark was born January 30, 1952, the son and tenth child of James Edward “Damo” and Agnes Lucille (Whalen) Conaghan. His parents preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Edward Conaghan, James Anthony Conaghan and infant Daniel Whalen Conaghan.
Surviving are one brother, John Joseph (Arlene) Conaghan of Pekin and five sisters, Ellen Ann Hinckley of Sarasota, Florida, Kathleen Harrington of Marietta, Georgia, Shelia Agnes Schlitt of Springfield, Denise Mary Snakard of Winnetka and Phoebe Alice (Stephen) Winninger of Caledonia, Michigan.
A 1972 graduate of the Spalding Institute in Peoria, Mark formerly worked for Caterpillar, Inc.
His private funeral Mass will be Thursday, August 22, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. Father Michael Andrejek will officiate. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
