

Born July 22, 1935 in Pekin to James and Irene M. (Cunningham) Herchenroder, she married Carroll Phillips on September 21, 1957 in Pekin. He survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Joy R. York of Pekin; two grandchildren, Mallory D. York of Tomah, Wisconsin and Dirk A. York of Pekin; one sister, Linda L. (Rev. Merlyn) Farrand of Manchester, Iowa; and one brother, Rev. Dr. Donald J. (Patricia) Herchenroder of Deltona, Florida.
Her parents preceded her in death.
She was a 1953 graduate of Pekin Community High School.
Marlene worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years for Peoria Central Loan and 4 years for Midland Guardian in Peoria.
Marlene was a faithful member of First Assembly of God in Pekin, where she was a member and past president of the Women's Ministries, former Adult Ladies Sunday school teacher, church organist for 50 years, and church bookkeeper for 30 years.
She was former volunteer with the Tazewell County House of Hope and had served as an election judge in the past.
Marlene enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross-stitch, sewing, baking, cooking, and traveling.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, October 6, 2008at the First Assembly of God in Pekin. Pastor Duane Moraine, Pastor David Carrington, Pastor Donald Herchenroder, and Pastor Merlyn Farrand will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
