Martha V Beeney

Born March 2, 1931 in Pekin to James and Rebecca (Leslie) Cornwell, she married Donald George Beeney, Sr., on September 4, 1948 in Pekin. He died July 21, 2004 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Patricia Marie Beeney, Brenda Sue Hill and Sheila N. Beeney; one son, Daniel Lee Beeney; one grandson, Don Allen Beeney; four brothers and three sisters.

Surviving are one son, Donald G. (Kathy) Beeney, Jr. of Pekin; one daughter, Carol Lynn (Larry) Porter of Mapleton; eleven grandchildren, Larry Porter, Jr. of Springfield, Kraig Beeney of Peoria, Donnie Beeney, III of Mississippi, Kurt Beeney, Monti Taylor, Cruz Valenzuela, Kendra Valenzuela, Casey Hill, Trish Beeney, all of Pekin, Angela Fisher of Oregon and Linda Vetter of Chicago and sixteen great-grandchildren.

Martha worked for Libby’s in Morton for more than 50 years, retiring at the age of 71 to take care of her husband. In earlier years, she worked for Foster & Gallagher; Peoria Porcelain and Peoria Plastics. She also worked as a waitress as a young girl.

Martha loved her flowers and had a yard full of them. She was a member of the Pekin AMVETS Post 235 Ladies Auxiliary, where she volunteered for bingo and worked in the kitchen baking pies. She also served with the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. She was a member of the Pekin Eagles Ladies Auxiliary and the Boatin’ Belles at the Pekin Boat Club.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Tyler Boyer will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
