

PEKIN ~ Melva Pauline White, 85, of 2408 Apple St., passed away at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center.
Born October 20, 1926 in St. Louis, Missouri to U.G. "Grant" and Molinda (Parker) Lovvorn, she married Hugh Oliver White on July 30, 1950 in Farmington, Missouri. He died January 25, 2007 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby and Margaret and one brother, James C.
Surviving are two daughters, Paula Jean (Paul) Vehlow of Sherman and Janice Lynn White of Pekin; two grandchildren, Molinda A. (Michael) Scott of Champaign and David E. (Mandi) Vehlow of Glen Carbon; one great-grandson, Braden E. Vehlow of Glen Carbon; and two sisters, Virginia Rasnic of Farmington, Missouri and Wilma Winstead of Brandon, Mississippi.
Melva was a 56 year member of First Baptist Church in Pekin, where she participated in the Maranatha class and also taught Sunday school to first graders.
She did clerical work in the administrative building for Pekin Public School District 108 for 25 years, retiring in 1987.
She served as President of the Tazewell Animal Protective Society for several years and oversaw the development of the building on Allentown Road. She also had served as a member of the board of directors for the Tazewell County School Employees Credit Union.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. Mark Friday will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:30 until the time of the funeral. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
