

Born June 6, 1939 in Pekin to Milferd and Dorothy (Hazlett) Strubhar, he married Pamela K. Johnson on April 18, 1981 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Shawn Strubhar of Peoria; one daughter, Angela (Yens) Christianson of Germantown Hills; one step-son, Brandy Hyatt of Pekin; one step-daughter, Tracy Harrison of Pekin; nine grandsons; and three sisters, Delores Sisk, Marilyn Brown and Evelyn McRae, all of Pekin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-son, Kenneth Hyatt; one grandson, Curtis Turner; and one sister, Carol Hoerr.
A United States Army veteran, he served from July 26, 1957 to July 14, 1960. He attained the rank of Private First Class.
Gene had worked for Keystone Steel & Wire Company in Bartonville, Laborers Local 231 in Pekin and the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1869 and AMVETS Post # 235, both in Pekin. He was a former member of the Pekin Boat Club and the Pekin Moose Family Center #916.
Gene enjoyed repairing clocks and chainsaws and operated Geno’s Clock’s.
His funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, December 19, 2014 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. The Rev. Gary Ford will officiate. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army.
