

Born July 10, 1954 in Colorado Springs, CO to Gerald L. and Rose E. (Dykes) Piro, he married Marsha Mock on July 10, 1976 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Nathan (Stephanie) Piro of Forest City; three grandchildren, Colt, Dakota and Morgan; his “Baby Doll”, Jaylynn,; numerous brothers and sisters, including Gary (Becky) Piro, David Piro, Donna Piro, Miranda (Allan) Bernstein, Cindy Winget and Millie Piro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and one sister.
Gene had served as a tank operator in the United States Army during the Vietnam War era, while stationed in Korea.
A loving father and grandfather, Gene enjoyed working on cars and computers. He also enjoyed working with his hands doing construction, building pole barns and garages.
He had worked for D.M.I. in Goodfield, last working in October of 2003. Prior to that, he had worked for Morton Metalcraft.
His memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Rev. Eugene Hooker will officiate. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with expenses.
