

Born May 22, 1918 in Havana to Paul D. and Nellie (McNeil) Holmes, he married Catherine Alice Dooley on August 17, 1946 in Pekin. She died November 14, 2005 in Pekin. He was alsopreceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert E. Holmes and Richard Holmes; and two sisters, Emma Duley and Alma Blanche McCutcheon.
Surviving are one son, John Neil (Vickie) Holmes of Pekin; one grandson Troy (Nicole) Holmes; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Luke, Savannah and Veronica Holmes; one brother, Donald Wayne Holmes of Pekin; and one sister, Phyllis Jean Reiling of Springlake.
Paul worked as a supervisor for Corn Products Refining Company for thirty eight years, retiring in 1960. He then worked as a custodian for Pekin Hospital for nearly twenty-five years.
He was an avid fisherman and loved to bowl.
He was a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Pekin
Paul was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 7, 2008at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel, where visitation will be one hour before the funeral. Pastor Chuck Tate will officiate.Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
