

He was born July 19, 1990 in Peoria to Daniel and Dhawn (Workman) Poyner.
Surviving are his father, Dan (Deborah) Poyner of Peoria; maternal grandfather, George Barnes of Peoria; his aunt Roxane (Dr. Dale Fleming); their children, Andrew and Jessica; additional aunts and uncles, Jack and Carol McHenry, Debby and Walter Murphy and Katherine Simms; and all of their children; also surviving is his girlfriend, Diana Hernandez of DeKalb.
Preston was preceded in death by his mother; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal step-grandmother.
He was a member of Mossville United Methodist Church in Mossville.
He was a 2008 graduate of Morton High School, where he excelled in football and wrestling. In 2008, Preston was third in the nation in the 220 pound weight class. He continued wrestling at Northern Iowa Community College, where he received a wrestling scholarship. He was also a volunteer assistant coach for both football and wrestling at Morton.
Preston drove a truck for LaHood Construction, Inc. in East Peoria for the past three summers. He also worked at Jimmy Johns in DeKalb.
His funeral will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Eastside Bible Church in Morton. Pastor Kevin Copeland will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Additional visitation will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Saturday. Private burial will be at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to The Preston Poyner Huge Heart MHS Wrestling Scholarship in care of Morton Community Bank, 721 West Jackson St. Morton, IL 61550.
