

Born May 8, 1952, in Pekin, to Joseph C. and Etta I. (Funk) Martis. His parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Rebecca Martis, and two brothers, Steven, and Jeffrey Martis.
Surviving are his children, Steven Martis of Phoenix, Arizona, Megan (Joshua) Martis-Wagner, Corey (Jessica) Martis and Collin Martis, all of Pekin; one grandson Harrison Wagner; one brother, Scott (Teresa Kuhn) Martis of Mackinaw.
Richard attended Pekin Community High School, graduating with the Class of 1970. He continued his education at Parkland College and at the National University of Health Sciences, graduating in 1980 with a Doctor of Chiropractic Medicine degree. He was a well-known and respected chiropractor in Central Illinois for decades before his retirement.
Richard enjoyed many different hobbies. Among his favorites were the study of genealogy, U.S. Civil War history, and gardening. As a younger man, he was very involved in the practice of the Shuri-ryu system of Karate, studying under Master Phillip Koeppel. Richard was an accomplished athlete in that endeavor, winning several national awards and eventually reaching the rank of 3rd degree black belt.
A celebration of his full life will be held later. Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
