

Richard was born on March 25, 1937 in Pekin to Dr. Roland C. & Miriam (Platt) Wherry. He married Nancy J. VanNatta on June 24, 1961 in Edison Park Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, David Scott Wherry; his brother, Philip C. Wherry, and his parents, Roland and Miriam Wherry.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Nancy Jeanne; two sons, John R. (Joyce) Wherry of Pekin and Richard V. (Deanne) Wherry of Medford, Massachusetts; a daughter-in-law, Kara S. Wherry of Algonquin, along with seven grandchildren, Chandler, Loren, Audrey, Zayne, Zariah, Aidan, and Tess.
Richard attended Monmouth College where he met Nancy. He completed his Law Degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago and practiced Law for over 50 years, retiring in 2020.
In addition to his law practice, Richard served as an Attorney for the Pekin Park District and Village of Tremont. He also was a Trustee of Grace United Methodist Church and served on the Pekin Library Board. He received a distinguished Alumni Award from Monmouth College.
Friends and family were important to Richard. He was known for his sense of humor, which he honed over many, many breakfasts with a familiar group of friends. He enjoyed travel west with family and a group of lifetime friends from Monmouth College. Glacier National Park was a favorite destination and a more recent trip to Alaska was a favorite source of stories. He passed on his love of tennis to his sons and was a consistent supportive presence at their tennis and soccer matches.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. No services are planned.
