

Born December 31, 1957 in Pekin to Howard and Lorene (Vogel) Smith, he married Tammy Jean Goetze on March 26, 1977 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bartonville. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Ryan Smith of Mapleton and Mark Smith of Bartonville; two grandchildren, Austin (Austyn) Smith of Hanna City and Colt Smith of Mapleton; four great-grandchildren, Nora Smith, Amelia Smith, Murphy Smith, Ridley Smith; two sisters, Cathy Reimer and Debbie Lolling, both of Glasford; one sister-in-law, Mary Lou (Ron) Janssen of Glasford; two brothers-in-law, Ted (Melissa) Goetze of Green Valley and Jeff Tieszen of Glasford and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews who were special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Ron Lolling, and a sister-in-law, Darla Tieszen.
He was a 1976 graduate of Illini Bluffs High School in Glasford.
Rick was a lifetime over-the-road truck driver, last working for Wal-Mart and retiring on July 1, 2023. He was a retired member of Teamsters & Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria.
Rick also has been a part of farming all his life, first with his father and later helping his son, Ryan.
He enjoyed golfing and fishing but always put family first. He also took pride in having a perfectly cut lawn.
He was a Christian.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2025 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Matt Spangler will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton.
