Roy D Bishop, Sr.

Born May 23, 1948 in North Hampton, IL to Russell “Bunny” and Lena “Easter” (Songer) Bishop, he married R. Elaine McCann, May 15, 1967 in Eureka.  She survives.

Also surviving in his loving family to cherish his memories are one son, Roy (Jeannia) Bishop, Jr. of Bayview Gardens; one daughter, Jadda (Kevin Brown) Bishop of East Peoria; two grandchildren, Jaelynn and Baylee Brown, both of East Peoria; two brothers, Russell (Sharon) Bishop of Chillicothe, and Phillip “Buck” Bishop of Creve Coeur; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and many friends.

Roy served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

A twenty-five year member of the Operating Engineers Union Local 649, he was employed by R.A. Cullinan & Sons for twenty years, retiring in April 2010, due to serious illness.

Roy loved is job, fishing and hunting, but family always came first.  He was a great man and will be dearly missed.  

Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.  Pastor Steve Weber will officiate.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.  Military rites will be provided by the Tazewell Military Rites Team.  Cremation has been accorded.
