

Born July 22, 1943 in Galesburg to Samuel and Shirley (Wright) Story, she married Ronald L. “Buck” Cross on September 3, 1958 in Lincoln. He died February 10, 2007 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Ronald Cross and Lowell Cross; one granddaughter, Cynthia Cross and her son-in-law, John Wyman.
Surviving are one daughter, Julie Wyman of Pekin; one son, Jeremy (Samantha) Cross of Pekin; seven grandchildren, John (Toni) Wyman, Ronnie (Molly) Wyman, Amanda (Brandon) Bailey, Samantha Cross, Mindy Cross, Jace Cross and Jett Cross; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one sister, Carol McAvin of Pekin.
Sandy worked in home health care for 20 years, last working at Kyle’s Care at Home in Pekin on November 3rd. Prior to working in healthcare, she worked at Grimm’s Truck Stop in Morton as a waitress for 20 years until its closing.
She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune, reading, playing solitaire and working word finds. She also thoroughly sitting on her porch and listening to the police scanner.
Her private funeral will be at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. The Rev. Judy Doyle will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Guidelines regarding social distancing and wearing of masks will be required. Burial will be at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
