Through his blended family with Cathy are Dawn (Deron) Roche of Naperville, Amy (Jim) Nolan of Oswego and Katie Hellrigel of Richmond, Virginia; and 13 grandchildren, Nicolas, Natalee, Addisyn, Isaac, Ethan, Elijah, Ashton, Anelise, Allyson, Erik, Joseph, Ryan and Sarah.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Steve had a wide and varied career, each chapter showing his curiosity, determination, and hard work. He most recently worked as a truck driver for Owens Transportation, a role he truly enjoyed. Earlier in his life, he spent time working at Mitsubishi. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to venture out into real estate where he restored and rented countless houses creating homes for many families.
He will be remembered for the joy he brought to others and the passions that filled his life. Steve had a lifelong love of sailing and collecting – cars, motorcycles and model trains and especially had a soft spot for convertibles. His enthusiasm for life was matched by his deep love for his family and friends. He never met a stranger and always found ways to connect, share a smile, and offer kindness.
Steve’s faith was central to who he was. He was a faithful servant of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and attended Pekin First Church of God. He dedicated countless hours to helping at the food pantry, where he found great fulfilment in serving others.
Steve leaves us a legacy of kindness, service, and joy. He will be remembered not only for the things he loved, but for the way he loved – generously, sincerely, and without hesitation.
A celebration of life visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at Pekin First Church of God. His celebration of life service will start at 1 p.m. Pastor Steve Greer will officiate.
Cremation has been accorded by Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pekin First Church of God, 2520 Maywood Avenue, Pekin, Illinois 61554.
