Susan Mae Lewis

Born March 10, 1949 in Fort Riley, Kansas to John Vernon and Ila Sue (Fitzgerald) Allcock, she married Raymond Lavell Lewis on December 17, 1977 in Pekin. He died January 18, 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her beloved only child, Susan Lavell “Susie” Lewis; four brothers, Donald Allcock, Earl Allcock, John Fitzgerald and James Allcock and one sister-in-law, Susan Allcock.

Surviving are one sister, Katheryn Cross of Pekin; two brothers, Sherrill Lee Allcock and Kenneth Allcock and many nieces and nephews.

Susan was a graduate of Manual High School in Peoria. Following high school she attended Illinois Central College School of Nursing. She worked for many years as a nurse at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria and several local nursing homes.

She was a talented seamstress and she had sewn her own wedding gown and loved making clothing for her family. Susan enjoyed ceramics, gardening, canning and watching Wheel of Fortune. Susan had lost her only daughter Susie earlier in the year. Susan was sweet, kind and incredibly caring. She was a loving person and will be greatly missed by her family.

Her graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Spring Lake Cemetery in Manito. Pastor David Craig will officiate. Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.
