

Born July 1, 1921 in Taylor County, Iowa to Nathan and Mary (Hinson) Martin, he married Mabel L. Barbour on September 22, 1945 in Peoria. She passed away November 23, 1985 in Pekin. He also was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry Martin; four sisters; and three brothers.
Surviving are one son, Thomas J. "Joe" Martin, Jr. of Pekin; two daughters, Christy (Raymond) Johnson of North Pekin and Pamela S. (Rick) Preston of Pekin; one daughter-in-law, Cinda Martin of North Pekin; six grandchildren, Thomas J. (Danielle) Martin, Kim (Darrell) Thompson, Jayson (Tina) Johnson, Janelle (Josh) Hafliger, Jayme Johnson, and Amber Martin; ten great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roland (Ronetta) Martin of California and Allen (Carole) Martin of Pekin; and one sister, Becky (Troy) VanDyke of Florida.
Tom worked for Corn Products as a converter operator in the refinery for 35 years, retiring in 1981.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed visiting with his little brother, Allen. He loved playing cards, especially euchre, pinochle and hand & foot. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin. Pastor Brad Martin will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin, with military rites accorded by the United States Navy and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team.
